Academic Computing Consultant for Digital Media

Position Summary:

Vassar College invites candidates to apply for the position of Academic Computing Consultant for Digital Media. The Academic Computing Consultant for Digital Media works in collaboration with members of the faculty, the library, and the IT staff to assess the academic computing needs of the college and provide support for the growing need for academic materials in digital format. The person in this position is responsible for the design and implementation of complex instructional and research projects, which may involve the supervision of student employees. He or she provides training, documentation and general computing support to faculty, and offers recommendations on appropriate hardware and software for the academic needs of the departments of Art, Film, Drama, and Dance, and others as needed. The Academic Computing Consultant works closely with the Library's Digital Initiatives staff to help develop repositories of digital media for teaching. In addition, the person in this position is expected to participate in professional networking organizations and conferences in order to contribute toward scholarship in this discipline and remain current regarding trends and changes in academic computing. This is a full-time, benefit-eligible position.

 

Qualifications:

A bachelors degree or a comparable combination of education and relevant experience is required; a masters degree and 2-3 years of experience in teaching or as an educational technology professional is preferred. The successful candidate will possess broad familiarity with the computing tools and resources required by the various disciplines with emphasis on digital media tools required for academic use. Excellent communication, organizational and project management skills are required.  Candidates must be able to work independently as well as collaboratively and to manage multiple priorities/deadlines efficiently.  Applicants should have experience with Macintosh and Windows hardware and software, especially media production software such as Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Flash, and Final Cut Pro; presentation software such as Powerpoint, Keynote; digital assets management systems such as Luna and Omeka; and Web 2.0 environments such as WordPress, Flickr, YouTube, Moodle, etc.
