The Academic Technologist provides consultation and hands-on support to faculty in the effective use of new and current technologies for academic purposes. The Academic Technologist supports existing academic technologies such as Moodle, Oxypedia (a campus wiki), video and the web, and investigates and promotes new technologies that enhance teaching, research and learning.

Administer the campus learning management system (Moodle), including creation and management of courses and trouble-shooting front-end technical issues for faculty and students.
- Provide consulting services (individually or for groups) to the faculty to support them in developing and implementing technology as a tool for enhancing teaching, learning, and research.

Provide faculty and students with training and documentation—delivered via a variety of formats, including print, online, and multimedia—on the use of the course management system, multimedia, web applications, and relevant academic software.

Develop and conduct workshops and one-on-one training for faculty and students.
- Investigate, develop and evangelize the use of technology in support of teaching and learning at Oxy.

Hire, train, and supervise student workers who support the academic technologies program.
Required Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree, minimum of three years hands-on experience in an educational setting supporting teaching, web, media and/or graphic production tools and techniques are required. A Master’s in Education, Instructional Technology or design, or related field is preferred.

Experience supporting a learning management system in a college or university setting. Experience with Moodle is preferred.

Demonstrated abilities in a combination of web site support and development, visual presentation, graphics and multimedia.

Some experience with digital media and video production is preferred.

Demonstrated experience using a combination of visual presentation software (i.e. PowerPoint), graphics software (i.e. Photoshop, Illustrator), document conversion software (i.e. Adobe Acrobat, Publisher), web site support and development software (i.e. Dreamweaver, Front Page, html), multimedia software (i.e. Flash, Camtasia).

Knowledge of instructional design principles and their application to integrating technology into teaching, learning, and training.

Excellent written, oral, and presentation skills. Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.

- Ability to quickly learn new technologies and software, at times without formal training.

Ability to set priorities and work concurrently on multiple tasks and projects,
- Ability to communicate progress/problems to appropriate personnel effectively.

Ability to communicate effectively with people at varying levels of computer literacy, including technical staff and application vendors.
