Assistant Director for Instructional Technology

The Assistant Director for Instructional Technology (AD) provides leadership, direction, planning, and oversight for the wide-range of outreach, consultation, instruction and support programs of the Instructional Technology work group. The programs and services of Instructional Technology are expected to provide effective support in the areas of innovative use of technology in the classroom, and in support of faculty teaching and student learning generally. In addition, the AD is responsible for assuring that continual research and visioning of possible future programs and technology initiatives are a regular part of Instructional Technology. 

Working closely with the VP for Library and Information Technology and the Director of Library Services and Instructional Technology, the AD assures the programs of Instructional Technology are effectively integrated with the broader range of technology and instruction programs at Bucknell. More specifically, the Assistant Director for Instructional Technology works closely with the Assistant Director for Research Services to assure an effective integration of library research services and instructional technology into a cohesive and seamless program that serves Bucknell University's academic goals. The AD for Instructional Technology and AD for Research Services are jointly responsible for creating and maintaining an outreach program that is thoughtfully proactive, consistent, and regularly brings new and forward-thinking ideas to faculty about possible applications for technology, information resources and services in the teaching and learning process.  

Duties & Responsibilities:
- works directly with academic deans, faculty and students, and assures staff of Instructional Technology are also fully engaged with faculty and students providing relevant instruction, outreach and support in a proactive and thoughtful manner 

- works directly with research services to assure a seamless and cohesive program for faculty in support of University academic goals 

- oversees academically-focused technology instruction and its assessment 

-works directly with other staff in Library & IT to facilitate the evaluation, selection and deployment of academic technology solutions, to include leading and coordinating select initiatives 

- provides leadership in teaching and learning programs and services 

- assures the liaison program is running efficiently and effectively 

- works closely with faculty, academic deans and instructional technologists in supporting the University's effort to integrate information literacy and technology fluency skills into the curriculum 

- works closely with the Teaching and Learning Center on faculty development programs 

-works with instructional technology staff to assure all faculty feel connected to one or more instructional technologists through Library & IT's liaison program 

- assures appropriate on-going evaluation and assessment of current programs occurs 

- represents the Library & IT department in professional capacities, national and regional 

The Assistant Director must keep abreast of changing technology generally and its application in the higher education environment specifically. Also, the AD maintains a deep knowledge of current and emerging trends, issues, and best practices in faculty outreach, instruction, information literacy/technology competency, multi-media production, classroom design, GIS, web technologies, desktop tools and the wide variety of technology appliances. 

Develops and maintains an understanding of the aims and needs of the University's teaching, learning and research programs through active consultation with faculty, administrators and instructional technology peers. 

Supervises instructional technologists responsible for a broad range of outreach, consultation, instruction and support programs. The AD plays a lead role in assuring that our Instructional Technology staff approach their collective responsibilities proactively, and actively seek to promote themselves as experts in their field, offering ideas, opportunities, and support to the faculty. The AD should be perceived widely on campus as a deep subject expert in information technology in an academic context. 

As appropriate, both leads and participates in key projects and strategic initiatives related to technology identification, selection, and implementation, classroom design, technology instruction, outreach and faculty/student support. Has the ability to successfully manage large multi-phase projects. 

Must be able to work cooperatively with others and accept direction from supervisors. 

Reports to the Director of Library Services and Instructional Technology.  

Minimum Qualifications:
B.A. required. 

Successful record of at least 3 years working directly in the areas of instructional technology in an education context. 

Ability to set priorities and manage multiple projects simultaneously. 

Ability to write clear, accurate process documentation and business communications. 

Ability to analyze data and make local decisions based on national and local trends and to design processes that enhance services while maximizing university resources. 

Demonstrated effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills with a high priority placed on the ability to effectively undertake instruction and other public speaking engagements.  

Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree preferred. 

Supervisory experience preferred but not required.
