Director of Administrative Information Services
Vassar College is looking for a dynamic, service-oriented individual to be our next Director of Administrative Information Services (AIS). The Director of AIS is responsible for providing leadership and vision in the ways in which administrative applications, data, and technologies can support the administrative, academic, and research needs of the College community. Reporting to the Vice President for Computing and Information Services, the Director is part of a management team that has overall responsibility for all aspects of the technological needs and infrastructure of the College. The Director of AIS, supervising a staff of seven, is also responsible for providing exemplary support to the many departments and individuals on and off campus that depend on our central administrative applications and services to meet their needs and goals. While the primary application supporting the administrative information needs of the College is Banner from SunGard Higher Education, Vassar also uses a host of third-party and custom-built applications to complement and extend Banner.
A bachelor's degree is required; an advanced degree is preferred. The successful candidate must have a minimum of five years of experience in an enterprise or administrative computing department, preferably within a higher education institution, with increasing levels of supervisory and budgetary responsibility. A strong technical background that exhibits both breadth and depth is important, as is the ability to effectively communicate and share that knowledge both orally and in writing. The successful candidate must have a proven record of management experience and a desire to continue to learn more about information technology and the ways in which it can help Vassar College achieve its goals. The Director must demonstrate an understanding of the issues surrounding data security and integrity, confidentiality, and the legal issues governing institutional information and must be able to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or concerns of colleagues and constituents. The Director must also be able to work effectively, and collegially, within a management team.
In-depth experience using and supporting enterprise database applications and enterprise resource planning applications is required, while specific experience with Banner is preferred. The successful candidate should have a demonstrated ability managing multiple simultaneous projects and tasks that range from short- to long-term and that involve multiple constituents. An understanding of programming languages (such as C or Java) is required while specific experience with PHP is preferred. The successful candidate should also have experience with portals, identity management, PL/SQL, Oracle software, reporting tools (such as Hyperion), application development for the web, database/systems administration, desktop database applications (such as FileMaker) and the use of both Windows and Macintosh desktop computers. Experience interacting and negotiating with technology vendors is strongly preferred as is responsibility for managing contracts.
