Director of User and Technical Services at Wesleyan Unviersity

This position is responsible for managing all activities of user services and core technical services units of ITS. In this role, the Director will be the "face of ITS" to the user community and will be administratively responsible for the Helpdesk, Desktop Support, coordination of training, all central systems, and the networks.

- Manage the communication of all systems and network related information to the end users in a timely manner using clear and easily understandable language.
- Coordinate Technology training for faculty and staff by assembling trainers from within ITS as well as from outside.
- Research and develop creative uses of new and emerging technologies with the least interruptions to end users.
- Manage direct reports which include the Helpdesk Manager, Manager of Unix Systems Group, Academic Desktop Support staff and the Assistant Director of Technology Support Services.
- Budgeting for all activities of User and Technical Services.
- Proactive capacity planning for systems and networks.
- Monitor overall health of the various systems and networks to assure very high availability.
- Help implement some of the already committed technologies such as server and application virtualization as well as collaborate with the administrative and academic computing service projects.
- Help implement change management
- Participate in the implementation of a Disaster Recovery Plan to provide full redundancy for services and data based on several scenarios.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree with ten years of experience with a minimum of five years experience in management
- Proven ability in positive customer service
- Management of technical staff
- Excellent communications skills
- Demonstrated skills dealing with end users with diverse technical expertise.
- Very high level understanding of operating systems (UNIX, Windows, MacOS), network and tape based storage solutions, database environments (PeopleSoft), wired and wireless network environments, and security policies.
- Technical familiarity with applications such as Active Directory, LDAP; email systems including Exchange and Sendmail, apache and tomcat web services.
- Ability to synthesize multiple technically complex systems into campus wide services.

- Demonstrated ability to think creatively in using existing resources to extend or implement systems for the benefit of end users
