Enterprise Systems Database Administrator
Bucknell University seeks to hire an Enterprise Systems Database Administrator who is a member of the Library and Information Technology division,an organization of 87 members. This position works under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Database Integration, and working closely with fellow members of the Database Integration Team (DBIT), the Enterprise Systems Database Administrator supports all aspects of enterprise system installation,administration, and performance monitoring and tuning, including database administration.
Key Responsibilities:
· Operations and Project Responsibilities:
o Systems administration of the University ERP system, Banner, and related systems.
o Oracle Database Administration.
o Assist in Administration of the University’s business intelligence and reporting solutions, including Banner ODS/EDW and the Cognos Reporting Suite.
o Assist in maintenance of the enterprise data dictionary, oversee data integrity initiatives, and produce relevant documentation and training materials.
o Create and maintain system and database scripts.
o Monitor and tune system and database performance.
o Participate as an active member of project teams related to installation of in-house system additions and modifications to vendor systems, ensuring good documentation and adherence to technical design standards/architecture.
o Test and Install vendor patches and new releases, following change-control management and vendor-recommended best practices and procedures; supervise all changes (both vendor and in-house) to the production environment.
o Provide status and issue reports as requested.
o Be on call during non-office hours and emergencies to respond to the critical needsof the University.
o Maintain, respect and protect the confidentiality of information held within or transferred across the University’s computer and communication resources in any format.
o Respond to requests to address auditor recommendations and comply with set standards and goals.
· Process Responsibilities:
o Champion policies and standards governing the Project Life Cycle (PLC) including, but not limited the testing of new releases, the development of enhancements, deployment, daily operations and maintenance, reporting and documentation (technical and end user).
o Support strategy for code review, reusability and versioning.
o Support policies which promote process and service improvement across the enterprise.
· People Responsibilities:
o Provide regular, ongoing feedback to peers and management promoting continuous improvement, proactive service, and relationship building.
· Technical Planning, Communication and Management Responsibilities:
o Serve as a proactive advocate for the appropriate use of the database technologies.
o Keep abreast of new technology developments and make recommendations regarding opportunities for implementation.
o Utilize the Oracle tools SQL*Plus and PL/SQL to create packages, functions, views, andprocesses to aid in reporting, query optimization, standardization, and database maintenance.
o Maintain technical competencies related to SunGard Higher Education applications andother applications as necessary to fully support the University community.
o Be familiar with Solaris UNIX operating environment and demonstrate proficiency inKorn shell (ksh) scripting, as necessary, to support our clients.
o Be knowledgeable in the Windows operating system and with the client/server environment.
· Qualifications:
o Bachelor's degree in computer-related field or 4 years relevant experience
o Minimum of three years of Oracle Database Administration experience
o Experience in the implementation, administration, and systems/database support of highly complex enterprise applications and subsystems; Banner experience highlypreferred
o Experience with Unix/Linux systems administration and scripting languages preferred
o Working familiarity with data warehousing and business intelligence concepts,techniques, tools; experience with Banner ODS/EDW, Oracle Warehouse Builder,Cognos preferred
o Debugging, optimization tuning, and troubleshooting skills
o Knowledge of security, system backup, and disaster recovery techniques and best practices
o Familiarity with the academic and business processes of higher education and the interrelationships between departments, data, and systems
o Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
o Able to work both independently and collaboratively, and thrive in a dynamic anddemanding environment
o Proven ability to manage multiple complex assignments with sensitivity to deadlines,priorities, and changing circumstances
o Demonstrated professional work ethic and positive, problem-solving attitude
