Purpose of Position

To coordinate the preparation, delivery, setup and tracking of new
computers on campus. This is a temporary, full-time position through
June 19, 2008

Qualifications

1. Significant experience supporting, configuring and troubleshooting
desktop computer systems is required, especially in a Help Desk.
Additional computer support experience and bachelor's degree strongly
preferred.

2. Broad range of experience with both the Microsoft Windows and Apple
Macintosh operating systems. Broad range of experience with network
protocols, drivers, patches and personal productivity applications under
both of these major operating systems.

3. Extensive expertise in configuring Windows PCs, including (but not
limited to) malware cleaning/prevention, creating and installing disk
images and resolving software and hardware conflicts.

4. Demonstrated skills and ability to communicate orally and in writing
with a diverse user community.

5. Experience with maintaining inventory databases, particularly of
equipment and fixed assets, is preferred.

6. Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.

7. Ability to move and lift up to fifty (50) pounds' weight.

Responsibilities

1. Coordinate preparation, delivery, setup and inventory tracking of new
computers and printers on campus. This includes installing a standard
image onto the computer, updating the software and customizing the
configuration for a specific person. The recipient is then notified and
the delivery is scheduled and performed.

2. Take primary responsibility for delivering and setting up printers
across campus. This includes configuring client computers, both Windows
PCs and Macintoshes, to print to networked printers.

3. Supervise and manage student workers for equipment delivery.

4. Transfer data from old computers to new computers. Maintain
confidentiality and respect users' privacy.

5. At time of delivery, offer clients brief orientation to new systems.
Clearly explain new tools and fully answer clients’ questions regarding
new systems as well as existing data.

6. Maintain equipment inventory database. Accurately record and update
database with information about equipment deliveries, cascades and
collections.

7. Work collaboratively with ITS staff members, especially Desktop
Services and Academic Technology Services professionals. Maintain a
strong service orientation to provide the highest level of client
service and support.

8. Other duties as assigned. (Macalester College reserves the right to
change job responsibilities or duties based on the needs of the
College.)

The position will remain opened but only applicants received by 11/5/07
