Bates College invites applications for the position of Programmer/Analyst. This position reports to the Director of Systems Development and Integration. The Programmer/Analyst is responsible for the analysis, design, development, implementation and maintenance of systems, applications and reports to support the business and management needs of the College. The successful candidate will have strong communication skills, a customer-service orientation, familiarity with the team decision-making process and excellent problem-solving abilities. This individual will be innovative, resourceful, enjoy streamlining and improving processes and be motivated to make a difference in the operations of the College.
Bates College has implemented all modules of the Sungard Higher Education Banner database system. Centralized administrative database development and management is a key element in Information and Library Services support of the mission of the College. Operating primarily in an Oracle environment, Bates College is embarking on exciting integrated application projects with Banner and Web interfaces. The programmer/analyst will work on projects both independently and on a team.
Required Qualifications: Be able to think creatively and logically, handle multiple priorities, resolve problems, identify tasks, and develop modular programs. Significant high-level programming experience in Oracle, Unix or Linux, and PL/SQL. Experience developing web applications and solid understanding of HTML, CSS and JavaScript. Demonstrated ability to determine project time lines and complete projects on time. Have excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to create a collaborative relationship with customers, and to convey computing concepts effectively to non-technical users. Bachelor’s degree in field related to position or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired Qualifications: Highly desirable skills include 1-2 years of experience programming with Banner, including Self Service applications, HTML and experience with a sophisticated reporting tool. A background in higher education and a bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field would be beneficial.
