Description:
The
Systems Administrator for Curricular Support provides support for
faculty and students by developing and maintaining networked services
for teaching, learning, and research at Wheaton College. This position
develops, maintains, troubleshoots, and upgrades specialized library
systems and networked academic technology, especially: interlibrary
services, academic databases, streaming media, learning management
systems (e.g. Blackboard), and social software (e.g. blogs, wikis,
podcasting, etc.). The position maintains and creates web interfaces
for accessing the library's electronic resources. The Systems
Administrator for Curricular Support participates in developing
college-wide processes and systems for supporting digital asset
management. This position also develops and maintains web content for
portions of the LIS website.
This
position serves in the Research and Instruction (RI) Department, which
is responsible for the direct support of teaching, learning, and
research, particularly as they are enhanced by technology and the use
of library and other information resources.
Requirements:
Candidates
should have a Masters degree or comparable combination of education and
work experience. A minimum of two years experience managing computing
systems and specialized software applications is required, along with a
minimum two years developing web-based applications, including
proficiency with open standard web programming technologies, such as
HTML, PHP, XML, Javascript, AJAX, CSS, and XSLT. Experience developing
and maintaining relational databases is required, preferably with
MySQL, Oracle, and/or FileMaker Pro. Experience working in higher
education and academic libraries, and supporting technology and
services in a public environment desired. Experience with data
encoding, such as MARC, EAD, Dublin Core, and TEI desired. Experience
with implementing and maintaining Institutional Repositories, such as
DSpace or Fedora and/or managing web servers (e.g. Apache, Tomcat,
and/or IIS), preferred.
