Statement of Purpose

The Research and Instruction Technologist provides supportfor multimedia instruction and research being done in the humanities, socialsciences and sciences. Principal tasks will center upon assisting faculty andstudents in using multimedia technology for classroom assignments and projectsthrough individual consultations, classroom instruction, and technicalworkshops.

This position provides support for a wide range of digitalimage, audio, video and animation software and related equipment.  We do not expect candidates to arriveas experts on all software, equipment, and coursework listed below; however,candidates should have a strong foundation in many.

 Multimediasoftware used in the Wellesley College curriculum includes:

AdobeAcrobat, After Effects, Director,Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Flash, Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, and Premiere; Apple Aperture,Final Cut Pro, DVD Studio Pro, iMovie, iDVD, Logic Pro, and QuickTime; Maya,MaxMSP, Amadeus

 Coursework includes scripting includingsoftware-specific scripting languages, APIs and Automator

 Relevant equipment used in theWellesley College curriculum includes:

Digital SLRs, video cameras and audio recorders; projectors, largeformat printers, Macintosh/Windows computers and alternative input devices; IR,Wii controller's, motion detection, sound equipment

 

This position collaboratesclosely with faculty and colleagues across Information Services and elsewhereon campus to develop and lead new programs to support multimedia instructionand research and create an integrated support model for the wide range ofsoftware in use across campus.

This position will also be collaborating closely with theArt, Music, Cinema and Media Studies, and Media Arts and Sciences departments,so an advanced degree in fine arts is highly desirable.

 

MinimumQualifications

Required: Substantial demonstrated experience in multiplesoftware applications and the equipment in use at Wellesley. Demonstratedexperience working with undergraduate students and faculty, andinstructing/teaching undergraduates. Ability and willingness to assist userswith a wide range of skill (from beginning to advanced) in creating multimediaprojects. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Minimum of threeyears of related professional experience. Applicants must be able to work wellas part of a team and work effectively in a culturally diverse environment.

Desired: An advanced degree in fine arts is highlydesirable. Experience working with a diverse range of media types (images,audio, video, animation). Advanced web authoring skills, and experiencecreating and maintaining information systems. Experience working in/supportinga media lab. Experience in a library environment and familiarity with academiclibrary information resources, academic library services, and academic librarypractices a plus.
